In February 2006, Uncommon co-founder Josh Rooke-Ley had a son, Atticus Gjesdal Rooke-Ley. Among the many new challenges was the question of what to do about all those family members and friends thirsting for pictures of the new bundle of joy? Flickr is great, but its interface befuddled Great-Granny in Michigan. The solution? Exploit Flickr’s publishing tools using their API and PHP to provide a “Granny Skin” for their site. The resulting day by day, evolving grandkid-photostream causes Granny to smile and Josh’s friends to melt in a puddle of cuteness overload.
