YBox (2006)
Uncommon Projects participated in Yahoo’s first annual Hackday and presented the ybox, which won 2nd place for the event. The ybox is a hardware and software prototype for an ethernet enabled, web configurable, thin-client set-top box with NTSC output. We were interested in making a networked hardware device that utilized Yahoo’s content in an interesting way sort of Konfabulator for TV. The challenge of Hackday was to make the project in 24 hours and present it in 120 seconds. The project lived on after the hackday, and eventually turned into workshops, kits and an ongoing development community. Check out our blog entry to read more thoughts about the ybox idea.
